What is a Point-in-Time Count?
A Point-in-Time (PiT) Count provides an estimate of homelessness in a community within a specified time period. It offers a snapshot of homelessness; and when conducted consistently, allows communities to measure their progress in reducing homelessness. PiT Counts are important because they establish the dimensions of the problem of homelessness and help policymakers and program administrators track progress towards the goal of ending homelessness and identify continuing areas of need.
