Everyone’s bodies and lifestyles are different and you will need to choose a method that works best for you and your medical conditions. If you are a female and you can choose from 2 types of birth control methods:

  1. Hormonal: these work with your menstrual cycle (period). Hormonal methods include:

    • The Pill

    • The Patch

    • The Ring

    • The “Shot” (Depo Provera)

    • Implants

    • Intra Uterine Device (IUD)

  1. Barrier Method: these methods prevent pregnancy by blocking the sperm from meeting the egg. Examples of barrier methods are:

    • The male condom

    • The female condom

    • The diaphragm

    • The cervical cap

    • The sponge

If you are a male, you will be able to access free condoms at Lebanon Family Health Services and learn how to use a condom properly. Some helpful hints include:

  • Never use a condom after the expiration date

  • Store a condom at room temperature

  • Be sure to get all air bubbles out prior to using a condom

  • Hold the base of the penis before withdrawing from the vagina or anus

  • Throw the condom in the garbage after one use
